The intracacies of different types of carpets!

Cut Pile Carpet!

There are a lot of choices out there when you start looking at carpets. We'll help simplify this process for you by breaking it down from the 2 largest categories and then all the sub categories.
The two categories that all the various types of carpet are broken down into are Cut Pile, and Loop Pile.
Every carpet you see is either Cut pile or loop pile. All carpets actually begin as looped carpets, and are then the loop is cut or trimmed to become a cut carpet. The word pile refers the top portion of your carpet that includes the fibers or yarns, and can be either the Cut or Loop style.
Now lets look at what Cut pile is, and then all of it's sub types.

Cable Style Carpet!
Cut Pile:
This is majority of carpets you will see in the home. The loops have been clipped, thus the term Cut. The new generation of Cut pile carpets does a good job of resisting staining and traffic wear. Here are the sub - categories of Cut pile carpets.

Cable: This style is manufactured with thicker, longer fibers. Must be well maintained as it has the tendency to crush and matte if it is not. Works best in bedrooms and formal dining rooms.

Frieze: This style features long fibers with tighter twists of the individual yarns. Not recommended for halways and other high traffic areas. Hides footprints and vacuum lines.

Plush: Far and away the most popular type of carpet found in the home. Normally solid in color, the higher end has a luxirious feel and is very durable.  All fibers are the same level. It does however show foot prints, vacuum marks, and stains.

Textured: Considered a casual carpet that wears well. It has a low density of fibers of uneven heights.

Saxony: Very plush. Thick and soft. Has a slight twist. Shows foot prints and Vacuum lines.

Loop Pile:
The pile in this carpet is left as manufactured - with the loop intact. Excellent for a variety of applications. Here are the sub - categories of Loop pile carpets.

Berber: This carpet has short, packed loops. Excellent for high traffic areas. Hides dirt and

stains.

Patterned Multi Level Loop: Has loops of different heights to create a texture or pattern.

Cut and Loop: A combination of both types. Great for high traffic areas. Doesn't show foot prints and hides dirt and stains.

I am new to the rental business and am looking for a reasonably priced carpet that is tough (renters) and stain resistant. Something that I will be able to purchase over and over.
