How to protect your Air conditioner from Theives!

Looks like this one was stolen for drug money!
Let's Do It!

We showed up for work one morning in a home we were re-painting for a real estate agent and her home owner. The home was up for sale. It was in the winter time and about 25 degrees out side. We had been painting for about 2 days and had about 2 days left. We had our paint cans, and all of our materials staged in the kitchen to keep them from freezing, as the garage was not heated. We had kept the heat at 65 degrees per the homeowner. Upon arrival that morning we immediately noticed the inside was freezing. We tried the thermostat, but the heat didn't come on.
Had lights and everything else but no heat. We immediately notified the Keller Williams Real estate agent we were working with that we had no heat and our paint had frozen overnight. She notified the homeowner and an Hvac guy was sent out. The Nunning Hvac guy arrived and the problem was immediately apparent. The whole dang thing was gone. Thieves had been there in the darkness of night, stole the unit and were gone, the only evidence was a blank concrete pad where it had sat and the ripped out wiring. You can imagine how the homeowners felt when they showed up 30 minutes later. They have to put even more money into a house they are already selling. This is on the north side of town, right here in Evansville, Indiana. As a small businessman we keep a lessons learned file. It's full of mistakes of all kinds, usually ours, and this definitely went into it. As great a town as Evansville is, we do have a bad criminal element in it.
One good way to prevent the theft of your AC unit is to invest in a protective Cage.  Check out the Durable cages Company website http://www.durablecages.com/   They are really secure, look nice and add to the attractiveness of your home instead of taking away from it. Any Contractor should be able to easily install them and perhaps even a homeowner if they have tools and can professionally use them.
Cages make your AC Unit secure!

Other options are the Eye in the sky, although this is more for an after the crime has been committed type security, unless there is a motion alarm installed inside your home or on your computer that will go off when anyone is near your unit. Then lastly, an alarm can also be installed on the unit itself to sound off when the unit is tampered with..

  1. Huge problem everywhere. With America's drug problem I am surprised it is not even more that it is. You have to secure everything in today's world. Having said that, the cage makes it look very attractive though!
